Decentraland Metaverse Fashion Week Cheat Sheet
A quick-start cheat sheet to this week’s Metaverse Fashion Week events in Decentraland
Tomorrow metaverse platform Decentraland kicks off its second Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW) over the course of four fashion-filled days from March 28-31.
In the true spirit of a decentralized fashion week, MVFW is a slightly organic agglomeration of fashion shows, events, parties, shopping, talks, and other related experiences. Decentraland itself has helpfully aggregated many of these together into a centralized Ultimate Guide to MVFW 2023. We are incredibly impressed with the degree to which Decentraland and its partners, brands, and designers have listened to feedback from last year and have worked had to create an easier-to-navigate, more accessible, and intuitive experience across the board.
But, MVFW remains a new event with a lot of moving parts, as well as one with a number of sister events and brand activations happening off platform that users may want to attend.
As content strategists, we cannot help but organize content so here we go for the first of several pieces we are doing this week. We threw together a quick cheat sheet with a mini schedule, some definitions, and a bunch of links to help new users and metaverse aficionados navigate the next few days of exciting MVFW events, which are mostly digital though a few are IRL.
How do I get into Decentraland and find my way around?
As a brief intro, the Decentraland team helpfully assembled an initial explanation of how to login and get around. Decentraland only works on a PC or Mac desktop so you will need to install one of these first.
Once you login, check out the very helpful Decentraland FAQs, which provides information on how to get into the platform, how to move around, how to make purchases, and other useful things.
Or, better yet, join a MVFW tour with Scott Moore to figure out where to go and what to do. According to Decentraland, tours run on the hour from 9:00am-2:00pm UTC (EDT +4) at -82,0 in Hera Realm over all four days of the event.
What’s the difference between fashion shows, parties, events, experiences, shops, and panel talks and when are they happening?
One point of confusion for the WT team with MVFW concerned figuring out the difference between a fashion show, a party, an event, and an experience. Also, the lack of a centralized calendar makes it difficult to sort out what’s happening on a macro level, which we try to do below.
The key info to know is that MVFW Fashion Shows, Parties, Panel Talks, and Events are all time contingent, whereas Shops and Experiences run continuously over the four days of the event. The Decentraland Ultimate Guide has jump links throughout the guide to make it easy to move from section to section.
MVFW Fashion Shows operate like traditional runway shows and each lasts around one hour.
MVFW Parties are brand activations and events that have a start time on specific days and then run the course of the event.
MVFW Panel Talks are generally education-focused speaker sessions and panels designed to discuss important topics related to the metaverse and digital fashion. There are several sister events not included, including digital events like the Metaverse Fashion Council Summit on March 28 and IRL events like the AR-IRL OVR runway show at Piazza del Duomo in Milan on March 31.
MVFW Events are more artistic endeavors and happenings, including the first Fashion Opera in the Metaverse, yoga and meditation sessions with Alo Yoga, daily Tours of Neo Plaza, and more.
Where can I shop?
Shopping in MVFW is easy and takes place 24/7 from March 28 to 31. One new feature this year is that now you can now use a credit or debit card in addition to crypto to buy Wearables and Emotes in the DCL Marketplace. This is due to the recent addition of Transak into the Marketplace. From a user perspective, shopping is also easier to find with a centralized MVFW tab in the Marketplace that will guide you straight to the dedicated shopping place.
For the full list of brand shops, experiences, and activations, check out the Shops and Experiences section of Decentraland’s MFW guide.
What’s on and when?
This marks the beginning of our MVFW coverage across media channels, so please stay tuned as the week unfolds.
